"When I'm Thinking About You" March 23, 1998

I think this is Harriet and David's favorite song off of Static &
Silence so I'm not surprised. I'm starting to like it a lot more with
every listen.

Subject: Part I of my part II

Does everyone remember my "Sundays Plan Art Terrorism" article? Well, a
fellow list member sent me the first part of it which I didn't know
existed. Let me say again that I did not write these but I wish I did.

THE SUNDAYS IN INTERVIEW OUTRAGE
--------------------------------
The Sundays, recently voted 'Most controversial band in Surrey', have
once again whipped up a storm of protest when they sensationally
turned the air blue on Surrey's local radio station, Surrey's Local
Radio Station FM.

SLRSFM was deluged with a phone call after the interview with Surrey's
top DJ, Chris Surrey, went out live on The Chris Surrey's Surrey Local
Radio Station FM Show. The interview was broadcast at 7pm, well before
the watershed, and just after Surrey closed down for the night.

"It's our busiest time," says station controller Matthew Surrey, "and
literally all of Surrey is listening, what with the electricity being
tuned off preventing us watching the county television. I knew we were
taking a risk, putting The Sundays on live, what with their reputation
for controversy, but that's what SLRSFM is all about - danger. But
even I couldn't have predicted the maelstrom that was to envelop the
station and thrust us into the spotlight, with a whole frontpage
devoted to the story in Surrey's local newspaper, Surrey's Local
Newspaper."

"The controller should have thought more carefully about allowing The
Sundays on air without even a 2-second delay," fumed reporter Andy
Surrey. Over their years in the music business, the band have
constantly lived up to their 'wild' reputation, and have only just
been allowed back in Surrey's pub after a five-year ban.

Landlord Tim Surrey told us : "One evening, The Sundays came in for
their usual lime shandies. I always keep an eye on them - being rock
n' rollers and all - but this particular night, there was a lot of
excitement as a new traffic bollard had just been erected in the
street outside. Whilst everyone was looking at that and taking photos,
The Sundays both lit cigarettes - in the non-smoking area. Naturally,
I wasn't having it, and banned them. They are a menace to Surrey and
its beautiful people."

The Sundays also upset the Surrey glitterati when they attended the
unveiling of a new bin in Surrey High Street. With the movers and
shakers of Surrey in attendance, David openly flouted the dress code.
"The invitations clearly stated black tie but David's shirt was a
ridiculous bright cream," says Surrey's showbiz columnist Piers
Surrey. "He offered to change but the damage was done and the whole
event was ruined. As far as I'm concerned, The Sundays are worse than
animals."

The band also stayed up until 11:25pm one evening, keeping the whole
street awake with their whispering, and Harriet has allegedly
'deliberately' kept a library book out for two days past the return
date. But the interview was the last straw, and it's believed that
Surrey council will vote on whether to burn them on sacrifice to the
'Crop Demon' this Michaelmas.

You decide when you read the transcript of the entire shocking
interview for yourself :
Chris Surrey (audibly nervous) : "So tell us about the new single."
David : "It's quite a ballad really."
Harriet : "It's got some beautiful strings on it."
Chris Surrey : "Isn't that very expensive? To have strings?"
Harriet : "Yes, but we just thought : 'Fiddlesticks! let's do it!'"
Chris Surrey : "Please moderate your language."
Harriet : "Sorry."

An uncomfortable silence descends over the studio for six minutes.
There is the sound of shuffling.

Harriet : "Sorry."
Chris Surrey : "Sssh."

A good friend of mine told me about it. I haven't heard it yet myself but
he told me it's really bad. The band is called "Tin tin out" i think.

Although I haven't heard it myself, I believe that the cover is by Tin Tin
Out featuring the vocals of Shelley Nelson.
I presume this because I got an email several months back from Miss Nelson
informing me about the cover. She told me that she has always been a fan of
the original and that the recording she did stuck pretty close to it. But
after the remixers got their hands on it, the song has changed somewhat,
although she did still think it was a decent mix. She was going to send me
an advance promo, but unfortunately it never came. Oh well.
I believe the single is on the Virgin label if anyone is interested.

There is a cover of HWTSE by a band called Flowchart ... they're
frequently compared to Broadcast, Stereolab, My Bloody Valentine, and
Cornershop, and what I've heard of them is pretty decent. Perhaps this is
the cover you're hearing?
