Subject: Minor corrections to Mark's interpretation

Hey Mark, bravo on your transcription. I've made some minor corrections
for the masses. These lyrics were MUCH easier to understand than in
"Through the Dark". Harriet's got a strange accent. It sounds normal
enough in her regular speech but it's enhanced in her singing. Usually,
it's the other way around and the mannerisms disappear in singing. For
the life of me, I have the hardest time understanding Noel Gallagher
talking but his singing's clear as... um, whatever. I guess I've been
in the US for too long. Anyway, here're the lyrics.

LIFE GOES ON

Build me up don't get me down
Weather the storm
Well, life goes on
Feelings ebb and flow by hour
You're up in the clouds
And then you sink like a stone

So do you feed yourself with pills
Oh, to deaden your ills
Or are you only one love short of happiness?
And in a picture on a wall
No glimmer of yourself at all
You've let yourself fall away

Build me up, don't mop my brow
Weather the storm, no
Because life goes on
It's my only hope right now
To soar like a bird
And not to sink like a stone

So do you feed yourself with pills
Oh, to deaden your ills
Or are you only one love short of happiness
And in a picture on a wall
No glimmer of yourself at all
You've left yourself far away

Oh so do you feed yourself with pills
To cure you of your ills
Or are you only one love short of the happy days to come?
And in a picture on a wall
Can't see the face at all
So untie yourself
Because that's all you've got to do
And I can grab a pair of wings
And I can take up flying
Won't be no crying
Up in the air, lookin' back down
And let me tell you if I talk about gloom
I don't get out of feeling down
It strips you of yourself
And splits your from the self that you know

Subject: Lyrics to "Through the Dark"

I've tried my best but I've found that I'm not too much better at
deciphering lyrics than I am at transcribing music.

THROUGH THE DARK

Oh innocent smiles
How the [budget's] a shame
Same televised lines
I've seen the film before

So silly a name
[I'm good at sayin' the name]
Livin' the bright and black shows again

See how it's shinin' through the dark
As the teardrops fall
And it illuminates the room
Ella can't stop staring for a moment **or**
(And I can't stop staring for a moment)

Some silver screen starlet
But it's my story she's livin' in
In a smoke filled room
Pressed up against the door

And see how it's shinin' through the dark
As the kettle boils
And it illuminates the room
And you take me
Eyes on it's prize (pride?)

Harlow (hello?) I'm drowning in your time (tide?)
Woken, so close to my pale skin
I'm pale
One touch and it's gone

Same black and white blonde
Another face but never her name
Hillbilly young boys
Without a tooth between them

And see how it's shinin' though the dark
Spinnin' a dream for the wide awake
And it illuminates the room
And you take me
Fixin' your eyes on a prize

Harlow (hello?) I'm drowning in your time (tide?)
Woken, so close to my pale skin
I'm thin

Sister stay now
Don't walk (wake?) now
This is my magic world
And it's pullin' me under
So stay

This song has a lot of sweet nostalgia reminiscent of "Monochrome". Oh,
and who's Ella? Did someone say that Ella is Harriet's middle name? Or
have I done too many drugs?

-John
